Full Flake and Partial Flake Epoxy Floors

Full flake covers the whole floor, and partial flake is a lighter scatter over a solid base. Full flake is our most common garage floor because it hides dirt, debris and flaws in the concrete. Full and partial flake cost about the same, so the choice comes down to the look you want.

Solid Color Epoxy Floors

A solid color floor uses the same coats as a flake floor, without the flake. A double top coat smooths the surface, with a slight orange peel texture.

Metallic Epoxy Floors

Metallic floors have swirls of color and a high-gloss finish that looks close to a mirror. Metallics are done in epoxy, which goes down thicker and lets us build depth into the color. A metallic floor shows footprints more than a flake floor does.

Quartz Broadcast Floors

A quartz floor uses a double broadcast of quartz sand. The finish has more texture than flake, close to the urethane cement floors we install in commercial kitchens.

Polyaspartic and Urethane Top Coats

Polyaspartic is our top coat 9 times out of 10. It's UV stable, so it won't yellow, it resists chemicals and it dries to a high gloss. For a matte finish, we add a urethane coat over the polyaspartic, and urethane is the toughest of the three coatings. We use a low VOC, high solids polyaspartic.

Anti-Slip Grit and Custom Designs

We add anti-slip grit to the top coat when you want more grip. We also lay custom designs with logos, borders and multiple colors. For a smooth flake floor, we run a self-leveling epoxy coat over the flake before the top coat.

Garage Stairs and Stem Walls

We coat garage stairs and stem walls, the exposed concrete along the bottom of garage walls. Coating them gives them the same finish as the floor.

How Our Garage Floor Installers Build a Full System Floor

Every full system garage floor from Superior Epoxy Coatings goes down in five steps.

  1. Diamond Grinding.

We grind the concrete to take off the worn top layer and open up its pores, the same way you sand wood before you paint it.

  2. Repairs and Cleaning.

We fill cracks, pitting and joints, then clean the floor.

  3. Moisture Vapor Barrier.

We roll on a moisture vapor barrier coat, so the floor doesn't need a moisture test.

  4. Base Coat and Flake.

We lay the base coat and broadcast flake across the whole floor.

  5. Top Coat.

We clear the loose flake and finish with a polyaspartic top coat.

Epoxy Floors for Workshops, Home Gyms and Laundry Rooms

We install the same flake, solid color and metallic systems in workshops, home gyms, laundry rooms, mudrooms, sunrooms, barns and sheds around Selma and Schertz. For a laundry room, Adam usually recommends a solid color floor or stained concrete.

You can stay home while we coat a small room. Grinding is loud, and the rest of the work is quiet.

When You Can Park on Your New Garage Floor

You can walk on a new garage floor as soon as 2 hours after the top coat, and most people wait a full day.

Garage Floor Coating Questions From Selma and Cibolo Homeowners

Which garage floor system should I pick?

Full flake is the most popular garage floor because it hides dirt and flaws in the concrete. Solid color and metallic are the other common choices. Adam brings samples to the estimate and helps you pick the system that fits how you use the garage.

Is there a price difference between full flake and partial flake?

Not really. Full flake and partial flake cost about the same. The difference is the look: full flake covers the whole floor, and partial flake is a lighter scatter over a solid color base.

Will chemicals damage the floor?

Our polyaspartic top coat is very chemical resistant, and the floor wipes clean. For extra durability, we can add a urethane coat over the polyaspartic. Urethane is the strongest of the coatings we use and can be finished matte.

Will it turn yellow in the Texas sun?

No. Polyaspartic is 100% UV stable, so it won't yellow over time. Epoxy isn't UV stable, which is why we finish garage floors with a polyaspartic top coat.

How long until I can park on it?

72 hours. You can walk on the floor and bring back light boxes after 24 hours, and restock the garage after 48 hours. Most people give it a full day before walking on it.

Can a flake floor be smooth instead of textured?

Yes. We run a self-leveling epoxy coat over the flake before the polyaspartic top coat. That fills in the texture and gives the floor a smooth finish.

Do I need a moisture test?

No. Every full system floor includes a moisture vapor barrier coat, so we don't test for moisture. Moisture coming up through concrete builds pressure that can push a coating loose, and the barrier coat stops that.
